China Cabinet Plans
Oh my. So I scored THE best China Cabinet I could had ever wished for. Honestly, this beautiful piece of furniture is exactly what I wanted and the best part is I got it for FREE!! Yes, you read that right. (Plus what I had to pay professional movers to bring it to my home). Other than that it was a complete bargain.
I make it a habit to scan the Craigslist "free" section regularly and one day (on a Wednesday) with a complete notion that I wanted to find a China cabinet (believe it or not, people be giving these away quite frequently in my area. However, I never actually got one before because it was either located too far to pick up, or it was too big or it simply didn't match my vision) I went and scrolled down to see what was being given for free. Then BAM, there it was. I quickly emailed the owners and the next day Thursday, a very sweet lady replied to me saying that indeed the China cabinet was still available and that I shall discuss the details of the moving with her husband.
Long story short, I called the man, with him agreed upon a pick up time and finally on Friday the movers I had hired to pick it up from their location, brought it home to me.
Wow, just wow. It was even more beautiful in person. I was so happy to see it and to finally say that I actually own a china cabinet. But wait, not just any ole' find, but one that was over 50 years old. A complete vintage piece. The previous owners took such great care of it that it literally looks brand new. The wood is intact and the body itself is in pristine shape. It's sturdy as the first day it was completed.
The details and moulding are just gorgeous. I love the quality of the woodwork.
Plus the fact that it has clear glass view panels on the sides is a HUGE convenience.
Here is how it looks open...
I have so many plans with this beauty and can't wait to start filling it with precious finds and delicate pieces of glassware, pottery, collectables and all that looks good in a china cabinet (what doesn't these days?). For now it is empty, just luring me in every time I lay eyes on it. Ps: It has two light bulbs in the inside, people. Lighting the interior oh so beautifully. Woohoo.
The top surface exposes the cable/connection to the light switch which I don't prefer, but I can live with that. It's no big deal.
For now, these are my current inspiration ideas of how I will fill the interior...
All White Interior
I love white dinnerware, pottery and ceramics so of course I have it in mind to fill my china cabinet with precious, one of a kind or interesting "white" finds like these from Marshalls...
Clear + Glass & a POP of color Here or There
This particular cabinet looks a lot like the one I already have so immediately it serves as inspiration. The clear glassware look very clean, crisp and elegant against the wood, plus the pops of stainless steel (from the bowls at the bottom) also contrast really well.
GOLD & More Gold
I love gold. Not necessarily the real deal (although that's awesome too) but the actual color of gold is what I truly enjoy. Boy, oh girl will I definitely include gold accents when styling the cabinet. Check out how this lady styled hers at Jennaburger.com She went ahead and painted it a bright coral pink, but I will not be painting mine since the wood is so beautiful I would hate to cover it with layers of paint. Jenna did a great job, though. Absolutely love the contrasting colors.
In short, this cabinet will serve as the landing ground to classic, chic and beautiful pieces. It will not necessarily serve as a china cabinet (no, it will be an usual one at that) because it is so large that it will not fit in any NYC apartment kitchen or dining space (at least not mine). I can't just fill it with dinnerware and things of that nature since it will be positioned in the living room. The possibilities of what I can include in this china cabinet are endless so I won't limit myself as to what to add to style it. Even books will make their way in there, oh yes.
Take it from the previous owner herself... (that is the actual listing you're looking at)
Looks like she used it to store all sorts of things (glassware, bar essentials, tea sets, and a large assortment of booze) :D
Do you have a china cabinet? What do you store in it? I will keep you posted on any progress that I make with this china cabinet of my dreams.
