Natural Moisturizing Hand Treatment

We've talked feet here at Endevourly before with the magical Baby Foot Peel.  But we haven't discussed hands, before, I don't think.  Let's take a moment to realize how important they are.... Ok, good.

We use them daily so hands deserve some must needed pampering.  My palms had been naturally dry and relatively rough my whole life but recently after some minor changes I've noticed they have become increasingly soft while my entire hand is now super smooth and delicate looking, if that makes any sense.  I haven't done anything major but simply wear gloves when washing dishes (yes, we still do that over here).  Not all New York City rented apartments come with dishwashers unfortunately.  Before, the skin on my hands would begin peeling a tiny bit after each wash so I had to do something about this and easy enough, just wear gloves.  Just like in the pictures.  Mine are blue though.

To further enhance the look and feel of my hands, I'm using a homemade hand treatment with moisturizing oatmeal, honey and olive oil.  The cool ingredient?  Strawberries!  These are very cooling and refreshing plus packed full with amazing benefits.  Papaya works great for this too.  I'll be making a batch using those soon.

I seriously enjoy natural, homemade treatments using things I find right in our kitchen.  It's fun.  Makes me feel like a food chemist every time I create a concoction.  (You know, I always liked the idea of wearing white lab coats, goggles and mixing potential hazardous chemicals).  Anyways, back to the hand treatment... I tried it and loved it right away because my hands felt amazing while submerged in that pool of oatmeal and strawberries.  It smelled good enough to eat too.

First I soak the quick oats in water for about 5 minutes to soften.  Then, I like to mash the strawberries with a fork just roughly because I can finish breaking them down in the bowl while my hands are in there which serves as another tiny massage.

Next, comes the olive oil and honey.  Along with the soupy, milky, oatmeal, these two will make your hands incredibly soft.  The oatmeal actually also serves as a gentle exfoliant.

I stir everything together a bit and then finish off doing so with my hands.  Things will get messy, but chica is this worth it.

Don't be afraid to really get in there with your hands.  Playing with the mixture, breaking down the strawberries, squeezing the oats, etc.  It's very fun, relaxing, soothing and refreshing.  I enjoyed it loads.  Like a child playing with clay.  I remember those days.

As you can see, this soothing and moisturizing hand treatment is ridiculously easy to make, yet very effective.  All you need are oats, strawberries, olive oil and honey.  I bet you have that right in your kitchen right now.

  • 1 cup Oats
  • 1 1/4 cup Water (to soak oats in)
  • 3-5 Large Strawberries
  • 1 tablespoons Olive Oil
  •  3 tablespoons Honey

Steps

  1. In a bowl, soak oatmeal for 5 minutes
  2. In a plate, mash strawberries with a fork.  Feel free to leave a couple larger chunks to later be broken down with hands.
  3. Combine oatmeal and strawberries and to this, add the olive oil and honey.
  4. Submerge your clean hands inside the mixture and enjoy playing with it.  Massaging it all over your hands.  Let your hands sit inside the bowl for as long as you wish (5-10 minutes would be nice) and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
