OLIVE GREEN, TEXTURED BEDROOM
This latest design is all about texture and loads of echoing of the patterns throughout. If you look closely, everything pretty much references each other, which we love and totally recommend for a space that inherently flows together nicely. We’ve got the nightstands featuring the coolest chipped wood texture, while the same pattern is being referenced on the Artwork (purchase it through Synonymous if interested) and white pillow. Our founder's all time favorite lamp is mimicking the lines on the two olive green pillows towards the back and finally, the headboard and side table have the same vertical linear style. Yes, you already know our need to add a curved back chair to every space we design, so here it is, HA 😉 The walls are covered in a subtly green-gray silk wallpaper. Hope you love this one as much as we do
Fresh & Airy Bedroom
All of our designs are inspired by something specific, in this case we spotted a gorgeous photograph of the Saudi Arabian Desert featuring gorgeous hues of rust/ caramel, celadon green and lilac, which we based the entire room around. Staying true to our signature approach, we utilized a neutral base of ivory creams, light taupes and brass on the major pieces, and introduced the selected color scheme through the pillows, rug, chairs and styling. This space simply reads fresh sophistication with such an approachable airiness that is sure to enchant.
Sophisticated, Warm Living Room
Celestial Boys's Nursery
Paola took astronomy in college and enjoyed that course a lot. For a long while now, she's been wanting to create a scheme centered around astronomy, knowing a nursery or child’s bedroom would be the ideal spaces for this. Our approach for themed spaces is to introduce the “elements” in a subtle way as to give the hint that indeed this room is “celestial themed” but it‘s not obvious. First we chose the awesome shagreen wallpaper, not a conventional choice, but works so well in imitating that “rocky” feel of the moon. From there, we added the geometric prints, which reference science, math, planets? We just didn’t want to add actual planet prints because we still wanted the room to feel sophisticated. All the little details like the moon throw pillow and stary velvet fabric on the ottoman are genius.
Subtly Rustic Living Room
Taking cue from couture fashion, we stumbled upon a Valentino outfit featuring the exact same shades appearing on this design. We thought it the perfect color scheme for a sophisticated and chic take on subtly rustic. We knew we wanted nature elements to guide our design so we started with a curved back sofa and the most gorgeous ceramic table lamp whose base is composed of individual thin disks that during the drying process take on natural forms of movement. Subdued emerald green as the dominant color is sprinkled throughout a neutral base of ivory creams, light taupes and bronze. Considering this, we were diligent to utilize patterned fabrics in silk and linen to both add a touch of luxe and livable comfort.
Neutral Safari Nursery
First, a pink nursery was envisioned and as we were going through the scheme it felt too pink. Then, BAM! The chicest wallpaper, which we've been coveting forever came along 😍. That was the starting off point to this sweet, subtly safari themed baby girl’s nursery. In reality, with the switch of the pink ottoman (don’t you just love the shade of it?) and throw pillows to a more boy approved color, this room is suitable for anyone because it’s more neutral than anything. Notice the cute wicker seat, a great alternative to the Serena & Lily hanging chair we all know of 😏 The incredibly chic and whimsical llama sconces are the perfect addition, accompanying the more depth filled animal prints above the crib.
Sleek + Tonal Living Room
The idea behind this design was to create a tonal, moody space reminiscing of a cocoon. It is one of our preferred ways to convey a refined, sophisticated ambiance. Dusty-blue gray, our all time favorite shade, was utilized as the dominant color seen on the silk wallpaper and our in-house designed custom curved back sofa with contrast frame. While, ivory found in the matte wood coffee table, art, side chair and lamp lighten and balance out the darkness. The space features many of our own in-house custom designed furniture pieces like the amazing 3 tier side table made from a bronze metal base and light stained white oak inserts. We added depth and interest through touches of burnt rust/organge and brass. You know, small details that make all the difference.
Relaxed Fine Dining
The brief for this dining room was for it to be a relaxing, approachable, yet sophisticated space ideal for family gathers. The design began with a gorgeous oak round table featuring a modern silhouette. We paired the relatively rustic nature of the table with low, curved back chairs so that they appear to be encasing the table. Their backs are upholstered with a chevron patterned linen fabric and fronts with a warm gray leather that offer both beauty and durability. An equestrian figure drawing, brass sconces and light gray grasscloth wallpaper adorn the back portion of the dinning room, making it a welcoming and soothing retreat.
Soothing Master Bedroom
With a statement making high headboard, we started the scheme for this soothing master retreat. The geometric table lamps compliment beautifully with the straight lines of the nightstands, while the low, curved back accent chair serves as both an art piece and practical furniture in the room. We love the dusty blue, gold and taupe color palette taken from the magnificent silk rug.
Most of our bedroom designs begin with a statement bed. The extra tall custom headboard was the perfect focal point, paired with tonal taupe nightstands and the most exquisite oversized bronze table lamps — seriously, they're huge, making them the absolute star of this bedroom. We continued the monochromatic theme by injecting color through the lilac, dusty blue/gray rug and pillows. Because we wanted to keep the space airy and bright, we utilized fewer and larger pieces that balanced each other out seamlessly. The rock crystal chandelier was the perfect finishing touch for a spa like retreat that feels timeless, soft and welcoming.
Classic Dusty Blue-Gray
Our favorite color is with no doubt dusty blue-gray and that was the starting off point to this exquisitely comfortable family room. We were sure to maximize seating with a deep custom sectional, structured side chair and then the coolest, tightly upholstered velvet blue sofa you have ever seen. It coordinates so beautifully with the lighter tone of the also velvet tufted ottoman taking center stage. The color scheme is introduced throughout the custom made pillows made from a combination of hard-wearing linen, silk and velvet. Touches of bright antique brass play off nicely to brighten the more subdued and serene feel of this space, while luxuriously understated features are present in the exquisite lamp collection and brass side tables. All in all, this space has become our new favorite— but we say that about all the rooms we design!
Classic Contemporary Lounge
A good lounge area is all that's needed to unwind, read a book or better yet, host a few friends for drinks. This relatively small area benefited loads from a group of curved back chairs that surround a gorgeous round coffee table. The concept took shape as we wanted to keep the fireplace as the focal point, while utilizing a more casual seating arrangement. Soft taupe, creams, grays and antique brown / gold allowed for a serene, cozy feel that felt appropriate for the classic contemporary interiors throughout the home.
Luxurious Living Room
A clean, neutral, light and airy scheme is what we were after in this living space. The starting off point was an ivory silk wallpaper and an elegant, curved back sofa also in an ivory color. We coordinated this with stunning rustic chairs with exposed backs, featuring a flared out armrest, which mimics the lines of the adjacent sofa. Throughout the room, we were very keen on a dusty blue-gray color palette (our go to color), deepening the lighter tones with antique brass visible on the two-tiered cocktail table, round side tables as well as the luxurious glass chandelier. If admired closely, the glass table lamp and silk blue throw pillow work so well together as they both have a close resemblance in design. Little details like these are what make up this incredibly soothing and sophisticated grown-up space.
FEMININE Lilac Bedroom
They don't come more luxurious than this! Featuring thoughtful pieces throughout, like a tiny patterned wallpaper, this master bedroom is incredibly soothing and feminine. We kept the color palette neutral along with shades of lilac in the custom velvet throw pillows. The most exquisite nightstands seem to glimmer with the light just like the uber soft tencel (faux silk) carpet. While the side chair is upholstered in a durable silk performance fabric for a touch of understated glamour. Our very favorite pale gray dresser adorns a section of this room with its sleek, yet classic lines. As you may notice, most of the details are in varying sheens as we wanted to create a depth filled space. We're literally obsessed with how it all looks :-)
Sophisticated + Airy Small Kitchen
This galley kitchen in the Upper East Side of Manhattan is very small and it is situated right off of the living space. To our clients, we proposed a light and airy color scheme to give the illusion of a wider space with the help of marble. At Synonymous, we're not huge fans of grout lines and awfully small tiles because we find they are quite unsightly at times. We decided to use a gorgeous Statuary marble slab as the backsplash and since the kitchen is small, the cost for it was not as high as you'd expect. The floors are a beautiful gray, linen textured porcelain tile that coordinate so well with the gray lower cabinets and the soft, yet crisp white upper cabinets. Hardware is in a polished nickel finish so that it flows well with the amazing brass flush-mount light since the ceilings in there are a bit low, too.
Sophisticated + Serene Master Bedroom
This sophisticated and serene master retreat is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long day. The color scheme we went for is light, airy and soft, though with punches of black to help ground the space. Our favorite color, gray, is used on the ridiculously gorgeous nightstands that we paired with a creamy - white table lamp. We love that the space feels grown - up, classic and sophisticated, but at the same time very much approachable and welcoming.
Sophisticated + Serene Master Bathroom
At Synonymous, we are always proposing wall mounted faucets whenever we have the opportunity. We also love designing cabinetry and vanities because they help us have control of the overall look of a bathroom space. This particular vanity design is great because it fuses two of our favorites features, drawers with recessed pulls and sleek, polished nickel pulls, too. The best feature on this vanity is definitely the thick, Carrara Marble countertop because it enhances the sophisticated look we were going for. To add warmth to the otherwise neutral space, we used brass sconces flanking the mirror and a brass trash can.
Dusty Pink Girl's Room
Dusty pink is one of our very favorite sweet and feminine colors (read more) as this subdued shade is incredibly soothing. Despite being a children's bedroom, we really wanted to keep it sophisticated and timeless enough so that as the child grows up, the design still feels relevant. We utilized a gorgeous dusty pink silk wallpaper, a soft gray-ivory bed with a custom lightly tufted headboard and a curvaceous chaise lounge. The coolest thing in this room must be the custom porcelain wall sculpture above the bed. Touches of antique brass further enhance and coordinate beautifully with the selected color scheme.
Modern, White Oak Bathroom
Clients wanted a modern bathroom retreat that felt airy and that utilized white oak. We designed the vanity to host not only drawers with recessed pulls, but a super useful shelf towards the base that can display folded towels or baskets. We love the black honed granite countertops in this space because it adds a nice punch to the warm tones of the wood. To further enhance the warmth, we decided to use Calcutta marble on the floors for its golden streaks.
